I have tried every speed. Could it be that write-able CDs and DVDs are vulnerable enough to these rays (which are known to cause RAM errors) that a whole pile of them could be gradually ruined? Run the iTunes Help menu -> Run CD Diagnostics...

This could have something to do with the heat generated inside the drive, damaging the electronics inside. I wonder if it will have any effect? I've returned so many of these spindles and have been stuck with two of the older ones that have no wrappings/receipts…. Very frustrating!! So far i have had no fails and hope the problem wont come back if i use this method.
