I found that it constructs a call to the internal stored proc sp_prepare, any subsequent calls throw the IO Exception because the connection to the database appears to have been dropped. I didn't see anything in the release notes related to this problem. I also tried not binding the parameters and instead hardcoded the sql being sent to see if the contains statement was the problem.
